Tooru Honda has always been captivated by the story of the Chinese Zodiac, a tale her beloved mother told her as a child. However, a sudden family tragedy turns her life upside down, and she soon finds herself living alone in a tent. Unbeknownst to her, she has set up camp on the private land of the prestigious Souma family. One day, she stumbles upon their home and meets Shigure, an older Souma cousin, and Yuki, the "prince" of her school. After discovering her secret, the Soumas kindly offer her a place to stay. But Tooru soon uncovers their mysterious family curse: when hugged by someone of the opposite sex, they transform into animals of the Chinese Zodiac.
