About the Data

Anime Pilgrimage is a map database of real-world locations (“seichi” / pilgrimage spots) that appear in anime, manga, and video games. This page explains where the data comes from, how it is reviewed, and how its accuracy is maintained.

Two clearly separated data tiers

Every location on this site belongs to one of two tiers, and the two are never mixed:

  • Curated spots — locations researched and registered by the site operator. Each entry is reviewed before publication and includes coordinates, the work it appears in, an episode / chapter / scene reference, and a copyright credit for the referenced scene.
  • Fan posts — photos and locations submitted by registered users. These are displayed in a separate section, clearly attributed to the posting user, and never merged into the curated tier.

Community verification

Location detail pages include a community vote (“Does this place look like the scene?”). Votes are limited to one per registered user per location and provide an ongoing, crowd-sourced accuracy signal on top of the initial review.

Copyright and credits

Scene references always carry the copyright notice of the original work. User photos belong to the users who posted them. The site does not republish official artwork beyond key visuals used with attribution for identification purposes.

Counts and freshness

The numbers shown on work pages and regional pages (spot counts, works per region) are computed directly from this database — they are not estimates and contain no third-party or AI-generated figures. Each work page displays its last-updated date, and pages are re-generated regularly throughout the day.

What we deliberately avoid

  • AI-generated descriptions or filler text
  • Locations copied from third-party sites without independent review
  • Mixing unreviewed user submissions into the curated tier
